Energy transition

The goal is clear: Reduce carbon emissions from energy generation, helping to protect the environment and the climate. At the same time, security of supply and affordable electricity prices must also be ensured. Simultaneously achieving these three goals represents the biggest challenge posed by the energy transition.

The energy transition is a lengthy, complex process which involves restructuring our entire energy generation and supply system. One core aspect of this transition is the expansion of renewable energy and our power grids. The development of storage technologies of industrial proportions is another key element.

Ultimately, the energy transition will only succeed if – in addition to achieving climate protection goals – the supply of electricity remains secure and electricity prices remain affordable. For the foreseeable future, conventional power stations will be necessary as a bridging technology to this end. These plants function as the safety net for the energy transition.
