Innovative storage technologies and expanding storage capacities are key factors for security of supply during the energy transition. Because they allow wind and solar power to be used regardless of when it is generated.

The massive expansion of volatile energy sources is a major challenge for the energy sector, as wind and solar power production depend on the weather and not on demand. In order to make wind and solar power available independently of when it is generated, the electricity has to be stored. New storage technologies and a massive expansion of storage capacities are becoming increasingly important for the secure supply of electricity, and consequently the energy industry is exploring numerous energy storage options. Battery storage and power-to-x technologies are currently the most promising approaches going forward.
